Today we launched our newest app, Hoofit, to tell you how walkable your neighborhood is.  It's a simple app to read your Walk Score and Transit Score from walkscore.com and it updates as you move.  You can get Hoofit for free here.

Real Estate Droid Retired E-mail

In February of this year, Google decided to stop displaying real estate information on Google Maps.  They cited low usage, and the availability of other great tools, like Realtor.com.  A few months later, they shut down Google Base, the system I used in Real Estate Droid to show properties for sale and rent.  I had no idea it was coming; luckily someone from Inman News got in contact to ask what I planned to do with my app in the face of the shutdown.  The shutdown of Google Base follows the earlier edict by Zillow that I was not permitted to use their data feed within a mobile app (right before they launched their own).

The other parts of the app remain functional - taking notes and pictures, looking up neighborhood info, etc.  However, as most people wanted the app primarily for searching real estate, and the second-most popular feature was Zillow lookup, I've decided to take it off line.  Thanks to all 160000+ people that downloaded it.

Perhaps one day I will again have access to useful real estate data and will be able to revive the app.  Fortunately for users, you don't have to wait on me for that.  There are a lot of great apps out there now, backed by major companies, that are both polished and useful.

If you happen to be interested in purchasing the Real Estate Droid code for re-use in another project (for instance, for examples of how to integrate with Trulia, Walkscore, Rentometer, and Cyberhomes), if you have access to MLS listings and would like to contract with someone to create an Android app for you, please send me an email.

Shopper's Paradise E-mail

We recently published Shopper's Paradise on behalf of Second Gear Games.  It's getting some great feedback.  According to Cyrket, The demo is rated 4.29 stars and the full version is rated 4.45. You can figure out the basic idea in about 30 seconds.  Place stores on prime spots in the mall and watch shoppers drop off their cash for your goods.  A competitor will fighting you for locations and customers.  Here's what Android users are saying:

"It's like Lemonade Stand crossed with Tower Defense. I'm hooked." - Tyson

"Works great on Droid. Very addicting! Well worth the money." - Chuck

"ADDICTIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!" - Lena

Search "Shopper's Paradise" in the Android Market for a free demo and the full version (in countries where priced apps are available).  If you're viewing this page from your Android phone, get Shopper's Paradise now.

Beat The Joker Slots, our original release, recently passed the 250000 download mark, putting it in the highest category of download counts available in the Market.  We never expected to get so many downloads for something so simple.  Thanks for your support.

In other news, check out Dragon Fire, our latest release in conjunction with Second Gear Games.  The full version is rated 4.75 so far.

Real Estate Droid And Your Privacy E-mail

In the interest of full disclosure, I want to let you know that I integrated analytics software into this latest version as well.  First, know that RED never collects personally identifiable information - I have no knowledge of your name, phone number, email address, etc.  It never collects your location other than to report what country you're in.  What it does collect is how many people are using RED, what screens are visited most,  how long/how people use RED, and what devices they use most.  This jives with the privacy policy tucked into the app - currently it's hidden off in random corners of the app (like a link at the bottom of the Neighborhood Info screen), and I apologize for that.  In the next release, I'll try to do something to make it more clear.  I'm not saying this because anyone complained, just because I don't want to hide anything about what's going on.  I collect this information so I know what parts of the app are getting the most use - I'll tend to give more focus to improving the most-used parts, and to tell if something is wrong (if no one ever gets to a certain screen, I've probably messed up).  I may someday share aggregate information, like number of users per month, with a third party, but I'll never ever share information about a single user.  If you have questions about this, feel free to email me.

Note that Beat The Joker Slots and Zombie Jackpot Madness do not currently have analytics software installed, though I do get some information on how often those games are used by seeing how many ads are served per day.  Again, I never collect personally identifiable information within those apps, and I would never share it either, but I may someday add analytics software to those as well, in a similar way to what goes on in Real Estate Droid.
